Barclay Robinson

Winemaker

Barclay’s path to winemaking began during his ten years as a certified professional sommelier in Calgary restaurants and hotels. His background includes wine program development, staff training, and restaurant management in corporate and independent enterprises. It was his sommelier training and time spent with national and international winemakers discussing the production of wine that his decision to pursue a career in winemaking was decided. Saying a fond farewell to Calgary and embracing his new life in Ontario, he completed his BSc (honours) at Brock University in Oenology and Viticulture in 2009. He has enjoyed working with a range of varietals and styles from delicate to bold and has produced many award-winning wines, recognized annually at various national and international competitions.  He regards an inspiring trip to Italy during his sommelier days as an influence in crafting the big bold reds and appassimento wines that he has been honoured to make as winemaker at the Foreign Affair Winery since 2013.
