Derek studied winery marketing and management at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY. He then interned at Tug Hill Vineyards and was hired as assistant winemaker. After a short time he was promoted to his current position of winemaker. Tug Hill Vineyards, located in New York’s North Country, grows hybrids (mostly U.MN cultivars). Their first vintage was in 2010 and they have won acclaim in wine competitions and mention in the Wine Spectator.
