As assistant professor of viticulture at Penn State, Michela’s research program addresses problems related to the economic and environmental sustainability of wine grape production in the eastern U.S. She specializes in cold temperature stress and how environmental conditions and management practices impact grapevine physiology, grape and wine quality, and costs of production. Michela is originally from Italy. Prior to joining Penn State in 2014, she was a post-doctoral researcher at Cornell University where her research focused on the effect of root-zone management practices on above and below-ground grapevine growth and performance.
